Scouse
An illustration for the latest addition of Red Pepper magazine, which is out now. It was illustrating an interview with Tony Crowley about his new book Scouse: a social and cultural history. Tony gave me some really awesome feedback on how much he liked the illustration, which was great to hear.
Riot!!
A piece I did for an exhibition at Space Station Sixty-Five in Kennington as part of Shape and Situate’s ‘Remembering who we are’ exhibition (photos of which I’ll be putting up soon). For more information on the exhibition have a look here.
Food revolution
This is my last bit of work for 2012, but it’s been quite a big project. A folded poster for Corporate Watch on a selection of the bad food production methods employed around the world, and some of the ways that farmers are coming together to create a more sustainable form of agriculture. It was a steep learning curve working on a poster this large with this much detail. I quickly realised the only way to get my computer to do the job was to work in different segments and... The wizard of Oz of finance
Ah, so I appear to have left this in limbo a while. Clearly need to do better with the internet. This: Is an illustration I did for STIR’s new book, titled simply ‘Volume 1′ and exploring ‘how inspiring and innovative groups are taking cooperative and community-led ideas from the margins to the mainstream’. The illustration is looking at how the world of finance is akin to the controller in the Wizard of Oz, I even got to draw the monkeys as cool robot dudes. The book’s being launched tomorrow –... We are revolting
(full disclosure I’m posting this in November because I forgot to post it when I should have done.) I created this as a sticker for Active Distribution. It’s part of a series of stickers that we’re going to, hopefully, be publishing together. We’ll see. They’re stickers I wish I’d had as a teenager for my skateboard rather than the Garbage Pail Kids. It’s actually a lot smaller than it is on your screen, the stickers are actually A7.
Care home illustration
Illustration for the latest issue of Red Pepper. You should be able to pick it up from newsstands across the UK in the next few weeks. For an article about care home support being removed from elderly people leading to greater potential for loneliness and lack of support.
New issue of Resurgence
I’ve just got the new issue of Resurgence in the post with some of my illustrations in it. It’s the first joint issue between Resurgence and The Ecologist, which should hopefully lead to the strengthening of both. It’s especially great to see The Ecologist back in print after a couple of years of being web only! Anyway, it was wonderful to work with Resurgence on the article about the need to ‘build a movement’. You can find more details about Resurgence at www.resurgence.org/
Common Sense illustrations
The New Left Project are publishing Dan Hind‘s new book Common Sense. It’s coming out tomorrow, Tuesday 20th March, and I did some illustrations for it. The premise is based, very loosely, around the Thomas Paine tract of the same name published just before the American Revolution removed monarchism from North America (which despite what replaced it was definitely a revolutionary action at the end of the 18th century). Dan Hind uses the title as a starting point to talk about liberty in the 21st century considering what the occupy... Read The Rest →
Jerusalem syndrome sketchbook two
I had forgotten that I hadn’t already uploaded these! The sketches below are mostly from the last days of my trip: Acca, Nazareth, Tiberius and Tel Aviv. In related news I’ve made it to the end of typing up notes and transcribing interviews so I get to start writing properly now. I’ll post some of the interviews up here once they’re illustrated. Oh, and I think the title of whatever I do will be People I’ve met in an occupied territory.
The new year
A really brief post to mark the start of 2012: Some awesome stuff arrived in the office to bring in the new year. A copy of Occupied Wall Street with my ‘Occupy Everything’ poster, a copy of World War 3 Illustrated with my comic about Freedom and the poster that I created for Greenpeace for the UNFCCC meeting in Durban at the end of 2011. All very cool! And now I’m back from binge eating in Italy there’s a lot of rad stuff in the pipeline for 2012; I’m excited!... Read The Rest →
